Maria Buxton

PRSAS Clinical Lead

Maria is the clinical lead for the PRSAS accreditation programme and serves as clinical lead and service manager for the West Herts Community Respiratory Service at Central London Community Healthcare NHS Trust in Hertfordshire. This is a large, integrated community respiratory service delivering nine respiratory services, including pulmonary rehabilitation (PR). 

Prior to her current role, Maria was the quality lead for PRSAS, where she led on assessor training, supported services through the accreditation process, and undertook accreditation assessments, building extensive expertise in quality assurance and service improvement. In 2025, she provided clinical leadership for the comprehensive review and revision of the PRSAS accreditation standards, working closely with stakeholders across the devolved nations, patient organisations, and specialist societies. 

Maria qualified in 1988 at Kings College Hospital and has built a broad clinical career working predominantly in London, as well as in the USA and Australia. She joined Central Middlesex Hospital in 1997 as a clinical specialist, and went on to become an integrated consultant physiotherapist in 2005, working across North West London Hospitals Trust. She completed an MSc in Cardio-Respiratory Physiotherapy at UCL in 2023 and has been actively involved in pulmonary rehabilitation since 1997, across both acute and community settings. 

Maria has played a key leadership role in PR at regional and national levels. In 2010, she led on PR for the London Respiratory Team, benchmarking PR services across London. She subsequently led PR work within the London Respiratory Network and was instrumental in establishing the London PR provider network.

Beyond her clinical roles, Maria has contributed extensively to national respiratory policy and quality improvement initiatives. She has served on the British Thoracic Society (BTS) Education Committee, advised on the BTS Hospital at Home Guidelines, and contributed to the CSP PRIME tool for PR commissioning. She has also supported the BTS PR Quality Standards review and currently acts as the East of England home oxygen contract clinical lead.

Enya Daynes

PRSAS Quality Lead

Enya is the quality lead for the PRSAS accreditation programme. She is also the senior physiotherapist within the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust Pulmonary and COVID rehabilitation team, contributing to leading the service. This is a large specialist service providing rehabilitation to those with chronic respiratory disease and long COVID.

She qualified as a physiotherapist in 2014 at Coventry University and progressed through respiratory services within the midlands. She joined the University of Leicester in 2016 as a research physiotherapist, completing her PhD on symptom management for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease in 2020. Since then she has worked as a clinical academic physiotherapist merging her research skills alongside her clinical skills. This has allowed her to integrate up-to-date current evidence into the PR service and lead on pioneering work for rehabilitation in long COVID.

Enya is the current chair of the British Thoracic Society (BTS) Pulmonary Rehabilitation Specialist Advisory Group and contributed to the BTS clinical statement for PR (2023). This role ensures Enya is able to contribute to PR initiatives nationally and will be well placed as the quality lead for PRSAS.

Cynthia Yim

Programme Manager

Cynthia is the Senior Project Manager for the Accreditation Unit at the Royal College of Physicians. Cynthia manages three national accreditation programmes, the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Services Accreditation Scheme (PRSAS), the Improving Quality in Allergy Services (IQAS) and the Quality in Primary Immunodeficiency Services (QPIDS) programmes.

Cynthia graduated with a BSc in Biomedical Science from St George’s University of London and has worked in project management and exam delivery for the past 10 years, including the delivery of national and international MRCP(UK) examinations, the development and roll-out of the JETS Workforce competency-based training programme for the endoscopy workforce and various accreditation programmes. Cynthia has a passion for healthcare improvement and service development. Cynthia works closely with PR services, commissioners, national stakeholders, and NHS England to support the PR community working towards achieving service accreditation.

Roza Jura

Senior Programme Coordinator

Roza has recently joined the team as Senior Programme Coordinator and is responsible for assessment management and supporting services throughout their accreditation journey.

She is also responsible for engagement and outreach and is passionate about healthcare improvement.

Roza has previously worked in the PRSAS and JAG endoscopy programmes and brings a wealth of experience to the role.

Ellen Bowyer

Programme Coordinator

Ellen is a programme coordinator and is passionate about supporting services throughout their accreditation journey.

Ellen is also responsible for delivering programme training, both virtual and face-to-face, and resource curation.

Prior to joining the accreditation unit, Ellen worked in the social care sector.

Alex Yeung

Programme Coordinator

Alex is responsible for training and web development related to the accreditation journey.

Before Alex joined the Royal College of Physicians, he worked as an administrator for a sixth form college and is currently studying Counselling.

Out of work Alex is keen on reading books with a cup of coffee.

Phil Mikulski

Programme Administrator

Phil has recently joined the Royal College of Physicians and is responsible for the administrative support of services throughout their accreditation journey.

Prior to joining the team Phil has worked within NHS London as a GIS consultant and data analyst, developing sustainable urban healthcare planning within London and supporting the NHS and local councils through policy insights and stakeholder engagement. His more recent roles involve work within the cultural heritage sector where he provided event coordination and administrative support to charities and museums.
